Do You Know What You Are Wearing?

What is French Terry?

French Terry is a knit fabric characterized by its unique two-sided construction: a smooth, flat outer surface and a distinctive looped inner surface (called the "loop back"). This specialized knit structure creates a fabric that's soft, breathable, and versatile — making it a premium choice for athleisure and everyday wear.

Key Characteristic: Unlike regular jersey knits, French Terry has raised loops on the inside that trap air, providing insulation without weight, while the smooth exterior maintains a clean, polished look.

Why French Terry? The Benefits

1. Exceptional Softness

The looped interior creates a plush, gentle feel against your skin. French Terry is significantly softer than standard cotton knits, making it ideal for all-day wear without irritation or discomfort.

2. Superior Breathability

The looped construction allows air to circulate freely between the fabric and your skin. This airflow keeps you cool during workouts and prevents overheating — crucial for India's warm climate.

3. Moisture Absorption

French Terry naturally absorbs sweat and moisture, wicking it away from your body. The loops on the inside act like tiny sponges, keeping you dry and comfortable during intense training sessions.

4. Temperature Regulation

The air pockets within the loops provide natural insulation when it's cool, while the breathable structure prevents overheating when it's warm. French Terry adapts to your body temperature, making it perfect for year-round wear.

5. Stretch & Movement

When blended with elastane or polyester (like our 80% cotton, 20% polyester blend), French Terry offers excellent stretch and recovery. The fabric moves with your body during squats, lunges, and dynamic movements without losing its shape.

6. Durability & Shape Retention

French Terry is thicker and more substantial than regular jersey, typically ranging from 220-280 GSM. This weight gives garments structure and helps them maintain their shape after repeated washing and wearing.

7. Wrinkle Resistance

The knit construction naturally resists wrinkles, so your gear looks fresh whether you're pulling it from your gym bag or your closet.

French Terry Blends: Understanding its Composition:

80% Cotton, 20% Polyester (Our Blend):
  1. Cotton provides: Softness, breathability, moisture absorption, natural feel
  2. Polyester adds: Stretch, shape retention, faster drying, durability

Why This Ratio Works:
The high cotton content ensures comfort and breathability, while the polyester component enhances performance — preventing sagging, adding stretch for movement, and improving drying time. It's the ideal balance for athleisure that performs during workouts and feels great all day.

At Bullish, we use 240 GSM French Terry in our 80% cotton, 20% polyester blend because it delivers the perfect balance of comfort, performance, and durability — engineered specifically for athletes who demand more from their gear.
